2020-05-30 spa Las ascidias son organismos a menudo dominantes en las comunidades bénticas marinas. En los últimos años, el descubrimiento de nuevos productos naturales con aplicación farmacológica ha intensificado el estudio taxonómico y faunístico de estos animales. Sin embargo, pese a la gran importancia de las ascidias, los estudios en México son prácticamente inexistentes si lo comparamos con otras zonas como el Caribe, el Mediterráneo, el Atlántico Europeo, o Australia. Gracias al proyecto "Biodiversidad, distribución y sistemática de ascidias con potencialidad farmacológica", financiado por el CONACYT, y bajo la responsabilidad de quien subscribe, se pudo conseguir una importante colección de ascidias, que sin ser numerosa, es sin embargo interesante habida cuenta de la gran escasez de registros de este singular grupo animal en nuestras aguas. Con este proyecto, se pretende por una parte incorporar los ejemplares de ascidias actualmente en la colección de invertebrados del Laboratorio de Ecología del Bentos a la base de datos de la CONABIO, y por otra, se pretende continuar con la identificación de algunos ejemplares no identificados todavía hasta el máximo nivel taxonómico posible. Para la identificación se recurrirá a la disección completa de los ejemplares previamente relajados, y fijados, y se emplearán distintas técnicas de disección en función de las características de cada grupo o familia. Es importante mencionar que la persona para la cual se pide la financiación cuenta además con una gran formación en taxonomía de tunicados gracias a estancias realizadas en el Instituto de Oceanología de La Habana con la Doctora Aída Hernández Zanuy a través del proyecto CONACYT anteriormente citado.
