Descripción

La extinción de las especies es una de las principales preocupaciones de la biología de la conservación. En efecto, el conocimiento sobre las presiones a las que están sometidas las especies, y que pueden provocar la desaparición o declinación de sus poblaciones, permite desarrollar estrategias enfocadas a disminuir este riesgo. Los estudios que han evaluado el riesgo de extinción se han enfocado en los primates, los carnívoros y algunos grupos de aves. En reptiles, este tipo de estudios son escasos, quizá como consecuencia del poco conocimiento sobre la demografía, la historia natural y, en algunos casos, la distribución de sus poblaciones. Particularmente, las lagartijas de los géneros Sceloporus y Anolis han sido recolectadas intensamente, incluso de algunas especies se conocen muy bien algunos aspectos ecológicos. Sin embargo, hasta el momento no se han caracterizado los efectos de las actividades antropogénicas (como la pérdida y la sobreexplotación del hábitat, y la introducción de especies exóticas) sobre las poblaciones de estos saurios, principalmente sobre las que tienen distribución limitada o que están dentro de zonas de alta diversidad (hot spots). Así, el propósito de este trabajo es compilar la información ecológica, taxonómica y curatorial para la construcción de las fichas (NOM) de setenta y tres especies de lagartijas contenidas en la convocatoria. Con esta información se evaluará la categoría de riesgo de cada una de las especies, utilizando el Método de Evaluación del Riesgo de Extinción de las especies silvestres en México (MER), y en caso de que la clasificación actual resulte ser modificada, se harán las propuestas formales para su reclasificación. Hay que destacar, que ninguna de estas especies esta contenida en Apéndices I y II de la CITES. Para cumplir con estos objetivos se consultarán distintas fuentes como artículos científicos, libros, páginas web y colecciones científicas. CK008
