Description

Las algas son organismos que tienen gran importancia, ya que constituyen la base de las cadenas tróficas que culminan con el hombre; así mismo son los proveedores de oxígeno en los ambientes acuáticos que habitan y son además la entrada de energía a estos ecosistemas. El estudio de las algas nos permite conocer este inapreciable recurso natural que se desarrolla a lo largo de las costas mexicanas y del cual no tenemos un adecuado conocimiento para su aprovechamiento y conservación. Con el presente proyecto se pretende organizar la información en una base de datos y elaborar una publicación sobre las coralinas articuladas en México, ya que hasta la fecha la información que hemos generado se ha publicado en estudios florísticos en donde se incluyen especies de algas coralinas. Las algas coralinas tienen una amplia distribución en México y se desarrollan tanto en el nivel intermareal como infralitoral, siendo un importante componente de la flora algal; por este motivo se pretende integrar la información obtenida previamente del herbario ENCB y recolectas del autor en diferentes localidades de las costas Pacífica y Atlántica de México.
