La mitad de las especies de anfibios conocidas para México se encuentran en situación de riesgo de acuerdo a la NOM-059-SEMARNAT-2001. Del 48% de estas especies en riesgo no se cuenta con información básica en el Sistema Nacional de Información sobre Biodiversidad, lo cual resalta la necesidad de iniciar estudios que evalúen el estado de conservación que guardan las poblaciones de tales especies. Mediante el presente proyecto pretendemos conocer la situación actual de poblaciones de ocho especies de anfibios -dos anuros y seis salamandras- distribuidas en Veracruz, uno de los estados con mayor diversidad de anfibios, pero también con altas tasas de transformación de bosques y selvas. Los resultados de este estudio derivarán en un mejor conocimiento de especies con poca información sobre su distribución y estado de conservación actual. Los datos generados aumentarán la comprensión sobre un grupo biológico con problemas de conservación tanto en México como a nivel mundial.
